CHS Scholarships
The Clarenville High School Scholarship Foundation was established in 1990. Since it’s inaugural year the Foundation has distributed over $360,000.00 in scholarships. The Foundation would like to thank the scholarship selection committee, accounting firm (Derick R. Drodge) and the many donors listed below.
DR. RONAN O’SHEA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP (G. B. CROSS MEDICAL STAFF ASSOCIATION) - 2 @ $250
Awarded annually to a graduate who has plans to undertake study in a Health Sciences program leading to professional qualification. The scholarship is presented in memory of Dr. Ronan O’Shea whose dedication to his work and the community were an inspiration to all.
CLARENVILLE ROTARY SCHOLARSHIP - 2 @ $250
Awarded annually to a graduate who has achieved academic excellence and is enrolled in a non-university program.
DR. BLAINE PEARCE / DR. PAULA PYE SCHOLARSHIP - $250
Awarded annually to a graduate who has achieved academic excellence in Biology 2201/3201 and is pursuing post secondary studies.
J-1 Contracting SCHOLARSHIP - $250
Awarded annually to a graduate who has achieved academic excellence in Chemistry 2202/3202 and is pursuing post secondary studies.
TOTAL CARE NURSING SCHOLARSHIP - 2 @ $250
Awarded annually to a graduate who is registered at a post-secondary institution in the field of nursing.
DR. BALLARD SHOAL HARBOUR FAMILY DENTAL SCHOLARSHIP – 2 @ $250
Awarded annually to a student who has shown great academic improvement within the past year and are on track to pursue a university degree.
CLARENVILLE HONDA SCHOLARSHIP - $250
Awarded annually to a graduate who is pursuing post secondary studies.
JANICE DAVIDSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $150
Presented annually in Memory of Janice Davidson, Clarenville High Class of 1991. This scholarship will be awarded annually to a graduate who has a strong work ethic, positive attitude and intends on pursuing a degree in Social Work.
THE FRANK COLLINS HONORARY SCHOLARSHIP - 2 @ $500 ($1000)
Awarded annually to a graduate for academic excellence and community service. Presented by the Board of Directors of the Clarenville Area Co-op in honour of Frank Collins, whose vision and energy as a teenager led to the establishment of the Co-op Society in our area.
This graduate must be the child of a Co-op member.
LIONS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – 4 @ $250 ($1000)
Awarded annually to graduates who have achieved academic excellence, a positive attitude, and were involved in a recognized community based volunteer activity.
EAST COAST EYE CARE SCHOLARSHIP - 2 @ $250 ($500)
Awarded annually to a graduate who is enrolled in postsecondary education and who has achieved excellence in World Studies.
MILLS, PITTMAN & TWYNE SCHOLARSHIP - $250
Awarded annually to a graduate who is enrolled in some post-secondary institution in the area of the arts and humanities.
SNOW\WALSH CHARTERED ACCOUNTING SCHOLARSHIP - $250
Awarded annually to a graduate who has a positive attitude and a strong work ethic. The recipient will be enrolled in some post-secondary institution.
PERCY & DRODGE SCHOLARSHIP - $250
Awarded annually to a graduate who is a hard worker with a positive attitude and is pursuing post secondary education.
CLARENVILLE HOME AND LEISURE - 2@ $250
Awarded annually to a graduate who has achieved academic excellence, and is enrolled in post-secondary education.
JUSTIN CHAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $500
Awarded annually to a graduate who has undertaken post secondary studies in a Computer Sciences, Math, Sciences or similar, and/or who is a member of a minority group. The scholarship is presented in memory of Justin Tak Chan, Class of 1995 who passed away in 2011.
ROBERT J. HORWOOD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - 2 @ 250
Awarded annually to a graduate who has achieved academic excellence and is pursuing post secondary study leading to a career in Teaching.
Presented by the Horwood High 2006 Reunion committee in honor of Robert J. Horwood who was the first principal of the predecessor of Clarenville High School from 1957-1961.
CLIFFORD FORWARD SCHOLARSHIP - $250
Awarded annually to a graduate who has achieved academic excellence, a r: positive attitude, and a commitment to enhancing the overall atmosphere and quality of student life at Clarenville High. Presented by the Scholarship Trust Foundation in honour of Clifford Forward who was integrally involved in the establishment of the foundation.
CRAIG’S LOCKSMITHING LTD. SCHOLARSHIP - 2 @ $250
Awarded to a graduate who realizes his/her academic potential through hard work, commitment and a positive attitude. Winner must be enrolled in a post secondary program in Skilled Trades, Industry, or Technology
REMAX REALTY SCHOLARSHIP (JOE WELLS)- $250
Awarded annually to a graduate who achieves academic excellence while participating in co-curricular and volunteer activities within the schoo
SCOTIABANK SCHOLARSHIP (Clarenville Branch) - $100
Awarded annually to a graduate who is dedicated, committed and a forward thinker.
BRUCE’S RECREATION SCHOLARSHIP - $250
Awarded annually to a graduate who is pursuing post secondary studies.
CLARENVILLE AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE SCHOLARSHIP - $250
Awarded annually to a graduate who is enrolled in a post secondary Business Program.
DR. GEOFFREY BAILEY SCHOLARSHIP - $500
Awarded annually to a graduate who has demonstrated strong thespian characteristics that would allow them to register in a program (or be already registered in a post-secondary program) that can lead to a BFA degree in either Visual or Theatre Arts.
MUN ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP – 2 @ $250
Awarded annually to a graduate who is attending Memorial University.
LIFETOUCH SCHOOL STUDIO SCHOLARSHIP - $250
Awarded annually to a graduate who has achieved overall excellence and demonstrated leadership and commitment to the Physical Education program and is pursuing post secondary studies.
JAKOB WALSH SCHOLARSHIP - $250
Awarded annually to a graduate who is attending post secondary and and shows leadership through volunteerism within the school and community.
PINSENT FAMILY ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIPS – 2 @ $500
These scholarships are awarded annually to a male and female student who have displayed leadership, commitment to academics, strong work habits, and consistent attendance at school.
ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION SCHOLARSHIP - 2 @ $500
Awarded annually to graduates who have achieved excellence in academics, attendance, and attitude and is pursuing post secondary studies.
CLARENVILLE FORD & MERCURY SALES SCHOLARSHIP - 2 @$250
Awarded annually to a graduate who has achieved excellence in English and is pursuing post secondary studies.
MERCER’S MARINE SCHOLARSHIP - $250
Awarded to a graduate who realizes his/her academic potential through hard work, commitment and a positive attitude.
BETTY BLACKMORE MEMORIAL AWARD - $250
Awarded annually to a graduate who is a resident of the municipality of Clarenville and displays an interest in the community by volunteer activities within the school and the community.
KEVIN KING ENTREPRENEUR SCHOLARSHIP - 2 @ $250
In Memory of Kevin King. This scholarship is awarded annually to a graduate who is a forward thinker in Entrepreneurial skills
CLARENVILLE HOME HARDWARE SCHOLARSHIP - $250
Awarded to a graduate who is enrolled in a post secondary program in skilled trades.
SUB C CONTROL SCHOLARSHIP $1000 - 4 @ $250 ($1000)
Awarded annually to graduating students who went on to study Engineering or were involved with the Robotics program or went to school at the Marine Institute.
CLARENVILLE DENTAL - 4 @ $250 ($1000)
Awarded annually to a graduate who exemplifies academic excellence and plans on pursuing a career in Science or Medical Field.
BRAD HISCOCK MEMORIAL AWARD - $250
Awarded annually to a graduate who is active within the Varsity athletics program at Clarenville High School. Presented in memory of Clarenville High graduate Brad Hiscock, the recipient of this scholarship will display a friendly attitude and enjoy being a Clarenville High Cougar to the fullest.
PATRICK ADAMS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $500
Awarded annually to a graduate who exemplifies academic excellence and student leadership. Presented in memory of Clarenville High graduate Patrick Adams.
CLARENVILLE MASONIC SCHOLARSHIP - $500
Awarded annually to the graduate who has achieved the highest academic average and subsequently is awarded the Governor General’s Medal for Academic Excellence.
THE MARK BATTCOCK VOLUNTEER AWARD ($1000.00)
This award is presented annually in memory of Mark Battcock. Mark was a valued member of the Lion's Club and was a passionate community volunteer. This award will recognize a graduate who, like Mark, is energetic, kind, and makes a commitment to help others. By celebrating and recognizing the difference one person can make, we hope to encourage others to do the same.
GOVERNOR GENERAL AWARD
The final award of the evening is the prestigious Governor General’s Academic Medal. This is a non-monetary award and is presented to the student who had the highest academic average, including all grade 11 and 12 courses as listed on the student’s official Transcript of Grades issued by the ministry of education.
